Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government informed the Legislative Assembly that 152 lives were lost and over 69,707 hectares of crops were damaged due to recent flash floods, cloudbursts and incessant rainfall across the Union Territory. In a written reply to an unstarred question tabled by MLA Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri, the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Department shared division-wise details of the damages and relief provided so far. According to the official figures, Jammu Division recorded the highest loss with 151 deaths and 4,534 livestock deaths. A total of 1,591 houses were fully damaged, 4,326 severely damaged, and over 6,500 partially damaged (Pucca and Kutcha structures). Around 3,540 huts and cattle sheds were also destroyed. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), crop losses in Jammu Division were reported over an area of 69,707.685 hectares, with Rs 5,246.47 lakh disbursed so far as relief to the affected victims. In Kashmir Division, one death was reported, while 12 houses were fully damaged, 44 severely damaged, and 854 partially damaged. Additionally, 79 huts and cattle sheds suffered damage, and Rs 191.444 lakh have been paid as relief compensation. In response to the question on the extent of flood damage in the Srigufwara–Bijbehara constituency, the government stated that several structures, including a residential house in Khiram village, Sakhras bridge, a service reservoir, and a graveyard at Pethnoo Sakhras, were partially damaged. It further said that maize crops spread over 13 x 15 meters of land were affected, while 113.41 hectares of paddy land were damaged within the Bijbehara Tehsil area—(KNO)
